2010 5K Run & Fitness Walk

More than 200 fitness enthusiasts took part in the fourth annual 5K Trail Run and 1 Mile Fitness Walk to promote healthier life styles in Utica Community Schools.
Sponsored by the Utica Education Association, the annual event supports grants for creative wellness programs to benefit UCS employees and students. This year, the Sept. 19 event featured 150 runners, nearly 50 volunteers and a large number of spectators at Stony Creek Metropark.
The trail was challenging, but well worth the experience," said UCS teacher Kim Giacobbe. "I am glad I did it."
Doug Kurtis, winner of 40 marathons, kicked off the event. Kurtis holds the world record for most career under 2:20 marathons at 76 and most career marathons under three hours at 197.
