My Wellness Journey

Wellness Journey of Rose Palmer
Roberts Elementary
“The more you move...the better you will feel”, said Dr. Moes O from Henry Ford Hospital. But it wasn't his body that had a thirteen inch incision, it was mine.  The incision was necessary to remove a kidney that was transplanted into my brother Joe.

That was nineteen years ago when I started my “wellness journey” and kept “moving” to get my life back for myself, my husband, and our three sons.

My first moves were “”lagging baby steps” as I slid my feet down the halls dragging two IV poles. Slowly I began walking the roads around our cottage in Lexington.

Then one August afternoon, Pat McKinnon called and asked if I was up to walking. That was my  first  “long walk” which ended in us getting drenched because it hurt to run.”  It was also the “birth” of a walking partner.

After our “working Mom duties” were done, we made time for us.  It was the best gift we gave to ourselves. Over a period of 10+ years we walked over a thousand miles while having “girl time” together.

We both turned the page to a new chapter in our lives, but walking/healthy living  still plays an important part. I walk at night now, while returning phone calls, making “caring calls” to family and friends and taking the time to enjoy being outside no matter what the weather.

Dr. Moes O was right.....the more I move, the better I do feel.
